Data Analyst in Healthcare – Job Description & Resume Tips

Data analysts in healthcare help organizations make sense of clinical, operational, and financial data. Roles exist at providers, payers, pharma, and health tech companies. This guide covers typical job requirements and how to tailor your resume for these positions.

60-second answerUpdated September 2026
Healthcare Data Analyst resumes in 2026: what gets you screened in (the 5-point short version)
  1. Put the data domain in the first line: claims, EHR/EMR (Epic, Cerner), registries, or HEDIS/quality measures. Healthcare analytics hiring is domain-gated, and a recruiter screening 200 CVs is looking for the specific data you have already handled.
  2. Name the coding systems you work in — ICD-10, CPT/HCPCS, DRG, NDC, LOINC, SNOMED. These are the literal terms in the job description and in the recruiter's boolean search, and 'healthcare data' will not match any of them.
  3. State your compliance posture explicitly: HIPAA, PHI de-identification, limited data sets, IRB submissions. Every healthcare employer has to assume risk on a new analyst, and prior evidence you handled PHI correctly removes the largest objection to hiring you.
  4. Quantify in the outcomes the organisation is measured on — readmission rate, length of stay, cost per episode, denial rate, star ratings, no-show rate. 'Cut 30-day readmissions 1.8 points across three service lines' beats any description of a dashboard.
  5. List the stack by name: SQL first, then SAS or R or Python, then Epic Clarity/Caboodle, Tableau or Power BI, and any cloud warehouse. Healthcare still runs on SAS and Clarity in places, so naming them is worth more than a generic 'BI tools' line.
