Candidate video introductions, by link

A phone screen takes thirty minutes to arrange and fifteen to hold, and most of it is the candidate answering the same three questions. WadeCV lets you ask those questions once, by link, and watch the answers when it suits you. The candidate needs a browser and three minutes. You need nothing but the candidate's sheet.

60-second answerUpdated September 2026
Video screening on WadeCV, in brief
  1. Open a candidate, press "Ask for a video", and WadeCV emails them a link (or gives you one to send). The link works once and expires in seven days.
  2. The candidate records in their browser: three prompts on screen, a preview, up to three minutes, a review before sending. There is no account to create and nothing to install; it works on a phone.
  3. The recording goes straight from the browser to storage over a signed, single-use upload address, so it never passes through WadeCV's servers, and only members of your organisation can watch it.
  4. Share it with a hiring manager by link, without giving them a seat. The link expires, can be withdrawn, and the video is deleted with the candidate.
  5. Video screening is free. It replaces the first phone screen, not the interview: three minutes of a candidate answering the same three questions is enough to decide who to call.

How it works

  1. 1

    Ask

From the candidate's sheet, with their email pre-filled. The email names your company and the role and lists the three prompts, so they can prepare.

  2. 2

    Record

They tick a consent box that says who will see the recording, turn on the camera, record, watch it back, and send. A second link is needed to replace a recording, so nothing gets overwritten by accident.

  3. 3

    Watch

The video appears on the candidate's sheet next to their scores and remarks, with its length and when it was recorded.

  4. 4

    Share

A watch-only link for someone outside WadeCV, emailed or copied, with an expiry you choose. It can be withdrawn at any time.

What the candidate is asked

The recording page shows three prompts. They are the same for every candidate:

  1. Why you are considering a new role
  2. Why you believe you are a strong fit for this one
  3. A brief overview of your current and previous roles

Same questions, same time limit, same conditions: that is what makes the recordings comparable, and it is fairer than a phone call where the questions drift.

Built to be safe to ask for

A video of a person is the most personal thing in a hiring process, and the design treats it that way. The link is a random 256-bit token stored only as a hash. The upload goes from the candidate's browser directly to storage through a signed address valid for fifteen minutes, one file and one method, and the API confirms the file exists, is within the size limit and really is a video before it counts. Playback addresses expire after an hour. Nothing is transcribed or scored: see what the AI does and does not do.

Frequently asked questions

  • Does the candidate need to install anything or sign up?

No. The link opens a page in any recent browser (Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari, including on phones) that records with the browser's own camera support. Nothing is installed and no account is created.

  • How long can a video be, and how large?

Up to three minutes, which the page enforces with a visible timer, and up to 100 MB, which storage itself enforces. A three-minute recording at the quality the page uses is well under that.

  • Who can see the recording?

Members of your organisation, on the candidate's sheet, and anyone you give a share link to while that link is valid. WadeCV staff do not watch candidate videos. Playback addresses are signed and expire after an hour.

  • What does the candidate agree to?

Before the camera turns on they tick a box saying they agree to share the recording with your hiring team and the people you choose to show it to, for the purpose of this application, and that they can ask you to delete it. The time they agreed is stored with the video.

  • Is the video analysed by AI?

No. Videos are stored and played, never transcribed, scored or analysed. Automated assessment of video interviews is where the most serious bias findings in hiring technology have been, and WadeCV does not do it.

  • How is a video deleted?

By a recruiter from the candidate's sheet, or automatically when the candidate is deleted. Deleting removes the file from storage, not only the record, and invalidates every share link.
