Nurse resumes in 2026: what gets you screened in (the 5-point short version)
- Put licence, state and expiry in the header, with certifications listed immediately after (BLS, ACLS, PALS, NIHSS, CCRN, TNCC, specialty boards). Nursing applications are compliance-screened first, and a missing licence line stops the review.
- Name the unit and acuity you worked: med-surg, telemetry, ICU, ED, L&D, OR, PACU, oncology. Add bed count, typical patient ratio and trauma level. This is how a nurse manager judges whether you can work their floor from day one.
- Quantify outcomes and safety: HCAHPS scores, CLABSI or CAUTI rates, falls per 1,000 patient days, medication-error rate, readmission or throughput metrics on your unit. Very few nursing resumes carry numbers and they stand out immediately.
- List the EHR you charted in — Epic, Cerner, Meditech, Allscripts — and any super-user or trainer role. EHR familiarity shortens onboarding measurably and is a real factor in shortlisting for travel and per-diem work.
- Include leadership and teaching evidence: charge-nurse shifts, preceptorship of new graduates, committee or shared-governance work, unit council, or a practice change you implemented. This is what moves you from staff nurse to the roles that pay more.
