Equity Research Resume Template 2026: Associate and Student Stock-Pitch Format, Two Word Examples
Last updated: October 2026 · 5 sections · 2 Word templates (Research Associate, student with stock pitches) · 6 changes from a banking resume · the stock pitch in 5 fields · 5 bullet formulas · 4 employer types
- An equity research resume is a one-page finance resume that proves three things: you can build and maintain an earnings model, you can write a clear view on a stock, and you follow a sector closely enough to have an opinion on it. Every bullet should show one of the three.
- Use the banking order (contact line, education, experience, then investment experience, skills and interests), but add a short section for stock pitches and investment club work. For students it is often the strongest thing on the page.
- Write each bullet around a research output: the model you built or updated, the note or initiation you drafted, the companies you covered and what the research said. 'Supported the team' says nothing; 'updated quarterly models for 14 covered companies within 24 hours of each print' says the job.
- Sell-side research, independent research, long-only asset managers and hedge funds read the same page for different things: writing speed and sector depth on the sell side, investment judgement and a track record of calls on the buy side. Lead with the matching work.
- Expect a modelling test and a written stock pitch in the process, so put only pitches and numbers on the resume that you can rebuild and defend. Download the two Word templates below, replace every bracketed placeholder, and rewrite each line from your own work.
Equity research hires from the same pool as banking: finance, economics and accounting students, and analysts with a few years of experience. So most research resumes start life as an investment banking resume. The page is the same; what it proves is different. A research team wants to see that you can keep a model current, write under deadline and take a view on a stock. This guide covers what to change, how to put a stock pitch on one line, and how the emphasis shifts between sell-side research, independent research, long-only funds and hedge funds. Jump to the two Word templates or the stock pitch format.
The one-page equity research resume: exact structure
The banking order, with one section added for pitches and investment work.
Investment banking resume vs equity research resume: 6 changes
Rewrite in this order. The first two matter most.
Equity research resume templates: two complete examples
The first is a one-page resume for an Associate with two years in sell-side research; the second is a student resume with stock pitches for summer analyst and research associate applications. Every personal and company detail is a placeholder, and the numbers show the shape of a quantified bullet, not a real report, rating or price target. Each downloads as a Word file in one serif font at 11pt with half-inch margins and no tables or columns; replace every line with your own.

Eight common equity research resume mistakes
- Sending a banking resume unchanged: deal bullets, but nothing that shows you can maintain a model or write a view on a company
- No stock pitch on a student resume. For research it is often the one line that shows the job
- 'Built a DCF' with no company, sector or conclusion, which says nothing about whether the valuation meant anything
- Price targets or returns you cannot rebuild in a modelling test or explain in the first interview
- Listing every company you ever looked at instead of the sector you actually follow and two or three names you know well
- A sector interest you cannot discuss. Interviewers ask which companies you follow and what you think of them
- Two pages for a student or Associate application. Research resumes are one page; the pitch itself goes in the interview
- Licences listed as held when they are only expected. Write 'expected [month year]' or leave them off
