Account Executive Job Description & Resume Guide
Account executives own the full sales cycle: discovery, demos, negotiation, and closing. They typically work with qualified leads passed from SDRs. This guide covers typical job requirements and how to present your sales experience.

Account Executive resumes in 2026: what gets you screened in (the 5-point short version)
- Lead with the number: quota, attainment, average deal size, sales cycle length and win rate, for each of the last three years. Anything else in an AE resume is context for those five figures.
- Name the segment, the motion and the deal shape — new logo versus expansion, land-and-expand, mid-market versus enterprise, transactional versus committee-driven. A 30-day SMB cycle and a 9-month enterprise cycle are different professions.
- Show methodology fluency by name: MEDDPICC, Challenger, Command of the Message, SPIN, Force Management. Then prove it with a deal narrative — the champion you built, the economic buyer you reached, the compelling event you used to close.
- Quantify the pipeline you self-sourced, not only what marketing handed you. 'Self-sourced 46% of closed-won ARR' is the line that separates an AE who will survive a lean quarter from one who will not.
- Include the stack and the collaboration surface: Salesforce hygiene, Gong call review, Clari forecasting accuracy, and how you worked with SEs, CS and partners. Forecast accuracy is quotable and almost nobody puts it on a resume.
